Where are Lapad and Babin Kuk?

Lapad is the green peninsula west of the city centre, between the harbour of Gruž and the open sea. Its southern shore, around the bay of Uvala Lapad, is lined with hotels and has the area’s main beach; Babin Kuk, at the western tip, is a second large hotel area.

By road, Uvala Lapad is about 4.4 km from Pile Gate and Babin Kuk about 6 km. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board notes that driving in the city “can be challenging due to limited parking”, so most visitors staying here use buses and taxis for the Old Town.

How do you get from the airport to Lapad?

A transfer to Lapad is the simplest option. The airport is 24 to 25 km away on the far side of the city, and the drive takes about 35 minutes in light traffic, longer in summer.

The official airport shuttle does not stop in Lapad or Babin Kuk. It runs only to Ploče Gate and the main bus station in Gruž, according to its operator, Platanus. From the bus station you would need a city bus or a taxi for the last few kilometres, with your luggage.

With a pre-booked transfer, the driver tracks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign and drives you to the hotel entrance. Because Lapad is outside the Old Town traffic zone, nothing stops the car at the door.

How do you get from Lapad to the Old Town?

Lapad has some of the best bus links in the city. Two lines run to Pile Gate:

  • Line 6 from Babin Kuk, about 90 times a day between 05:30 and 01:00;
  • Line 4 from Hotel Palace, about 71 times a day.

A ticket costs €2.50 from the driver or €1.73 bought in advance, and a 24-hour ticket costs €5.31, according to the Libertas price list. For an evening out with a late return, or with small children, a private transfer or taxi is easier.

Is Lapad convenient for the cruise and ferry port?

Yes. The port in Gruž is just across the harbour from Lapad, a short drive from any hotel on the peninsula. If you are joining a cruise or catching a ferry, see our cruise port transfers.

How early should we leave Lapad for a flight?

Allow more time than the map suggests. The airport is 24 to 25 km from Lapad, on the far side of the city, and the road passes the busiest junctions near Gruž and the Old Town. Dubrovnik Airport says the drive from the city takes 30–35 minutes on average but advises allowing up to an hour in summer.

When you book the return transfer, give us your flight time and we suggest a pick-up time that leaves room for traffic, check-in and security. The driver collects you from the hotel entrance, and the first 15 minutes of waiting are included.

How do we book?

Send us your flight number, the landing time, the number of passengers and suitcases, and the name of your hotel. We reply with one fixed price per vehicle. Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before the pick-up, and you pay the driver in cash or by card. For more about arriving, read the airport transfer guide or our overview of getting around Dubrovnik.
